Fabric…It’s Not Just for Curtains Anymore!
Ever since I saw this amazing fabric covered console table by Timothy Corrigan at the ASO Showhouse, I’ve been smitten with the idea of covering a table of my own.
Not only does a fabric covered table stand out as a unique design element but the texture and visual punch it adds to room is really dramatic.
When you think about all the fabric options out there, this fairly easy diy project is a great way to create a custom look for your home.
Even though I didn’t need any more inspiration, I went looking for some and came across these looks and ideas…
Sometimes a room just needs a bit of natural texture and covering a table in grasscloth can add the touch needed.
You can never go wrong with an animal print and this python print turns simple stacked console tables into a…

FYI – Mother’s Day is THIS Sunday, May 11th. If you don’t have a gift for Mom yet, never fear! I’m here to help with some easy, inexpensive but thoughtful gift ideas that she’s sure to love.
Do It Yourself
If you’re crafty, you should go on Pinterest and find something fun to make your mom because, let’s face it, you’re probably always on Pinterest ANYWAYS so you might as well be productive. But just in case your access to Pinterest is weirdly inhibited for some reason, here are a few ideas that are more of the adult variety than the traditional “clay-molding-of-my-hand” craft gift. Your mom still has that hand thing, by the way, because that’s how much she loves you.

Taking a wee break today to get working on some projects. The weather is GORGEOUS and I have so much to do!
I’m also making some tweaks to my page… working on adding a house tour and another page where I can post the work I do at The Refreshed Nest.
(You’ll see the tabs above, but all you’ll find by clicking right now is “coming soon”)
I hope to add photos of each room in the house (which means a LOT of cleaning.. lol) and also draw up some floor plans to give it some context. If anyone knows of a free and super-simple website for doing that please do let me know!
Speaking of my little refinishing business, I have to share a big old FAIL that I experienced recently. I was at the thrift shop down the street and I came across this amazing chair:

Surprise Mom with Simple DIY Home Projects on Mother’s Day:
Here are ten repair/remodel jobs that can be done in a weekend or less. Consider one of these projects as a Mother’s Day gift; she will appreciate being able to cross one more project off her list!
Build or assemble a new shelving unit. Moms can never have enough shelf space. Many people are creating great storage spaces by adding shelves with coat and shoe racks underneath in their entry ways. Create a storage unit for mom by installing a wide wooden shelf and placing attractive cloth lined baskets, one per family member. Hang coat hooks underneath for each person also.
Create a Photo wall. Most Moms have plenty of family photos that they would love to have framed, but have not had the time to be able to do so. Shop around for unique frames and assemble the frames…

I found this amazing little consignment shop nestled in the corner of a huge shopping complex. It’s full of beautiful vintage clothing that seems to be carefully handpicked by the owner. I was on my way to another shop when I stumbled upon this one. I don’t think I’m going to make it to the next location…
Amazing tips!
I had so much fun with you!
Cheers folks! I’m Melissa, creator of the blog “Curbside Rubbish” and friend of Maggie’s. Maggie and I have spent long hours together working on our campus paper, The Leader, so many hours in our boring white walled office have been spent and will continue to be spent in the following semesters. I’m a firm believer in bringing the comforts and joys of home into a space that might otherwise be considered as not so homey. That being said, I collaborated with Maggie to combine her love for newspapers and my love for crafts to make quick and easy décor pieces for our office.
With mason jars, vases, Modge Podge, and old issues of The Leader in hand, Maggie and I spent a fun hour together making newspaper overlay containers to house our endless supply of markers and pens, and a few silk flowers to add in some pretties.
